As many as 10 teams have taken part in the 13th Cricket World Cup which is being held in India this year. Moreover, 48 matches will take place in this World Cup at different venues in this country. Incidentally, the starting date of this mega event happens to be October 5, 2023, while the concluding date is going to be November 19, 2023.
The first match of this World Cup took place between New Zealand and England in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on the 5th of October this year according to the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The points table of this World Cup is going to be updated according to ICC regulations following every match.
While the victorious team is going to receive a couple of points, the loser will not receive any points. In the event of a drawn match, both teams will get one point each. The same is applied in case the match is abandoned because of inclement weather conditions or any other unwanted circumstances. Nevertheless, the teams will play a super over in case the match ends in a tie. The net run rate of every team along with the point table of the ICC World Cup 2023 will be updated every day.
The first match
Here, we like to inform you that New Zealand defeated England in the first match of the World Cup. This was a sweet revenge for New Zealand over England, who defeated the Kiwis in the World Cup final in 2019. This time, New Zealand registered a resounding victory by 9 wickets.
The position of the teams so far
At present, the top 4 teams in the ICC World Cup points table happen to be India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan. Incidentally, India has got 6 points from 3 matches similar to New Zealand although the net run rate of India is higher. On the other hand, South Africa has got 4 points from 2 matches while Pakistan has accumulated 4 points from 3 matches with one loss. Interestingly, the strong contender of this World Cup, Australia, is occupying the last position in the points table with no points from as many as 2 matches. Australia is going to play against Sri Lanka today in order to salvage some points and go up in the points table.
The highest run scorers
New Zealand’s Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra happen to be the highest run scorers of this World Cup so far. While Conway has succeeded in scoring 152 runs, the other batsman mentioned above has been able to score 123 runs.
Australia versus Sri Lanka match
As already mentioned, the match between Australia and Sri Lanka has taken place yesterday. Although the performance of the Aussies is not very good in recent times, they should take advantage of the weak bowling attack of Sri Lanka today. This will help them to get the much-needed 2 points and go up in the points table.
