Shubman Gill’s historic double hundred against NZ
The young and reputed Indian batsman named Shubman Gill ended up scoring a fantastic 208 against the Kiwis when India succeeded in overcoming their opponents by only 12 runs in the first one-day International held in Hyderabad last Wednesday. The Indian team appeared well set for victory with the visitors scoring only 130 for 6 after India made 349 with the help of Shubman Gill’s historic double hundred against NZ. Incidentally, this young batsman made only the 10th double century in the history of men’s ODI. Moreover, he was the youngest person to score 200 when getting past the record set by another Indian youngster Ishan Kishan in recent times.
The match summary
Even though India was able to make more than 300 runs, and the visitors were in a tight spot after losing six wickets, all-rounder Bracewell scored 140 from 78 balls before being dismissed in the last over. Earlier, the well-known Indian pacers namely Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj bowled quite well and were able to restrict New Zealand successfully. However, the late fireworks from the all-rounder gave some hope to the visitors in the long run.
Finn Allen started the New Zealand innings with a quick 40, but the visitors were soon rattled because of some tight bowling from the Indians. When Tom Latham was the sixth person to go for the visitors, Mitchell Santner joined Bracewell and succeeded in making 57 from only 45 deliveries with a partnership of 162 runs before falling to Mohammed Siraj. Incidentally, Bracewell was able to hit as many as 12 boundaries and 10 over-boundaries before his dismissal in the last over. The best Indian bowler was Mohammed Siraj who had the figures of 4 wickets for 46 runs. Earlier, during Shubman Gill’s historic double hundred against NZ, he was able to hit as many as 19 boundaries and 9 over boundaries. Ultimately India succeeded in reaching 349 while losing 8 wickets.
The first Indian batsman to be dismissed happened to be the skipper Rohit Sharma for only 34 and the experienced Virat Kohli could only manage 8. Moreover, Lockie Ferguson was able to dismiss Ishan Kishan for a low score although Gill enjoyed support from Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav.
Gill goes into the record books
Here, we like to mention that after scoring a double century on Wednesday, Shubman Gill went past his teammate Ishan Kishan to turn out to be the youngest batsman to make a one-day international double hundred. Incidentally, when Ishan Kishan made the double hundred against Bangladesh last month, he was 24 years of age. Gill, on the other hand, was 23 years and 132 days when he made the double century against New Zealand. Incidentally, he has become the fifth Indian batsman who has scored 200 runs or more than that in a one-day international inning. He is also the eighth batsman in the world to do so.
