Rahul Gandhi Back As MP After Supreme Court Relief

Today Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, was back in the Parliament once again after a delay on his conviction in a case of criminal defamation when he made the “Modi surname” remark. It is a fact that this individual will be back once again in the Lok Sabha, and he is going to represent his constituency Wayanad when there have been repeated disruptions in the parliament over the demand of the Opposition bloc INDIA for a steadfast discussion on the violence that is going on in the state of Manipur prefaced by the statement of Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, on the same.

The Congress welcomes the restoration

Once he became restored as a Lok Sabha member, the Congress asserted that it would like Rahul Gandhi to become an important speaker in this discussion on the low-confidence motion that will come up in Lok Sabha tomorrow.

According to Manickam Tagore, the Congress MP, the party would like Mr. Gandhi to take part in the debate on the no-confidence motion since he has already gone to Manipur. He also added that they expect Rahul Gandhi to present all the facts linked with Manipur in the Lok Sabha.

On the 24th of March, Rahul Gandhi received his disqualification as a member of the Lok Sabha which came into effect on 23 March after a court in Gujarat convicted Mr. Gandhi in a defamation case and also sentenced him to a couple of years in jail. The disqualification of a lawmaker comes automatically after a punishment of a minimum of 2 years.

According to Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress MP, it was a victory for justice and also for the democracy of India. He tweeted that they should welcome the official declaration of the reinstatement of Rahul Gandhi with lots of relief. It will now be possible for him to resume his Lok Sabha duties for serving the Indian citizens as well as his constituents in Wayanad. There is no doubt that it is a victory for the democracy of India and also for justice.

On Friday, the Supreme Court, while issuing an order on the stay on the conviction of Rahul Gandhi, asserted that his disqualification from the parliament is going to impact his constituents in the long run despite the fact that his remarks were not in proper taste.

The remark that Rahul Gandhi made

Mr. Gandhi received his disqualification in the month of May after receiving a jail term for a couple of years in a defamation case after he made some comments about the surname of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Mr. Gandhi asserted at a rally before the 2019 general election in Kolar of Karnataka while digging at the Prime Minister that how is it possible for all the thieves to have a common surname (Modi)? Interestingly, Mr. Gandhi has not given his consent to beg apology consistently after a reprieve from the Supreme Court and he tweeted that his duty will remain the same irrespective of the situation. He also demanded that the concept of India must be safeguarded.
