Pan Adhaar Linking Extended Till 30th June

The government extended the deadline for linking the PAN (Permanent Account Number) with the Aadhaar card by a period of three months, and the authorities extended it till 30th June 2023. This will provide more time for the taxpayers to link their Permanent Account Number with Aadhaar in the long run. This particular decision comes before the present deadline which was due to conclude on 31st March 2023.

Earlier, the IT department had made it compulsory to link the Permanent Account Number to Aadhaar card by the 31st of March this year. Moreover, the income tax department also issued links on the official website so that it is possible for taxpayers to verify whether the link is already there or not.

In case it is not possible for any taxpayer to make the link by the 30th of June, his Permanent Account Number will become non-functional. This implies that it will not be possible for you to file IT returns, perform stock market transactions, or even perform a number of banking services.

The process of checking the Aadhar-PAN card link status

1. Make sure to visit https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ which happens to be the IT e-filing portal.

2. Select Quick Links on the homepage, and then you need to select Link Aadhaar Status.

3. Right now, you will notice two fields where it is imperative for the taxpayer to provide his PAN plus Aadhaar numbers.

4. You will see a pop-up message following this.

5. The message will tell that the link is already there in case Aadhaar and PAN happen to be linked.

6. If these are not linked, you will see a message on the screen that will notify you of the same. Next, you need to click on Link Aadhaar for creating the link.

7. In case the link is in progress, the user will see a relevant message on the screen. Lastly, you need to verify the status by clicking on the option Link Aadhaar Status on the homepage.

What will happen in case it is not possible for you to link the two numbers within the stipulated time?

In case the Permanent Account Number becomes inoperative, it will be essential for the user to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 for making the link. According to CBDT, it’ll be feasible to make the PAN operative once again within one month after paying a penalty of Rs 1,000 to the recommended authority.

The link will not be compulsory for these individuals:

• Individuals were residing in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and so on.

• An individual of the age of more than 80 years at any point in time during the preceding year.

• People who are not Indian citizens.

• NRIs (non-resident Indians) according to the 1961 income tax act.
