India has now more women than men ratio

There has been no population boom in India for the very first time which is definitely a positive sign without any doubt. Moreover, research has also found that the number of women in India exceeds the number of men at present. For this, we need to appreciate the policies of the government that has been responsible for this achievement.

As many as 6,50,000 families took part in a survey which found that there was a drop of approximately 2 in the reproductive rate of India which is definitely a positive sign. It is undoubtedly the very first time this has happened so far when it has gone below the levels of replacement fertility. The research also found that the number counts to only 1.6 in Indian cities and towns. Incidentally, the Indian government performed the fifth NFHS and it came to the conclusion that there were 1,020 females for every 1,000 males in this country between the years 2019 and 2021.

Previously, there was a social stigma in India regarding the birth of a female child. As a matter of fact, we have come across numerous incidents in this country which witnessed the killing of many Indian girls after they arrived in this world or even before that.

Is it something to cheer about?

The health ministry of the Indian government declared that the number of women surpassed the number of men in this country for the very first time. Some reports have mentioned this particular feat as a great accomplishment. According to one official, this is because of the Indian government’s measures which they took for the empowerment of women.

However, there is still some confusion about whether this is actually a real fact to behold. This is because only 0.21% of India’s total number of families participated in the survey. Incidentally, there are as many as 300 million families in India right now. Furthermore, the authorities have also cautioned that it is imperative for the readers to compare and interpret these data carefully since the sample sizes of some union territories and states happen to be smaller.

On the other hand, according to some researchers, the census has depicted that the number of men is more as compared to the number of women in India. As a result, according to the census, we can conclude that what we get from the survey performed on 6,50,000 families might not be the real scenario.

More female births because of obsession with male children

Many families in India want to have male children instead of females and they go on having children until the mothers give birth to a male child. For this, they do not take any contraceptive measures. This can be responsible for the increment in the number of girls in India right now. In fact, some authorities have declared that India has got approximately 21 million unsolicited girls right now whose parents had the desire to have sons instead.
