India Beats China With World Second Largest Road Network Of 1.45 Lakh kms

India has got the 2nd rank after the US in terms of the largest road network in the world. India has now beaten its neighbor China in this particular race to get the 2nd spot by adding 1.45 lakh kilometers of road network since the year 2014.

India has the second-largest road network on the planet

Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of India, held a press conference in this regard on Tuesday. He shared the achievements of his ministry in his tenure till now during this conference.

During the last 9 years, India has been able to add several greenfield expressways as well. Besides this, the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has virtually completed the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway which happens to be the longest Expressway in India so far.

Gadkari mentioned that the road network of the country had been 91,287 kms before 9 years. It is a fact that the National Highways Authority of India is known to construct quite a few new expressways and national highways under the tenure of Gadkari during the last few years.

The National Highways Authority of India has built in excess of 30,000 km of highways since 2019 across the country. It consists of some major expressways such as the one connecting Lucknow with Ghazipur or Delhi with Meerut.

NHAI has helped in setting 7 World Records

Apart from this, Gadkari likewise mentioned NHAI’s contribution to setting as many as 7 world records during this time.

Moreover, the National Highways Authority of India has also been responsible for laying 100 kilometers of brand-new Expressway within 100 hours this year during the month of May. This milestone has been achieved by the NHAI when the upcoming Ghaziabad-Aligarh Expressway was being constructed in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

In the same manner, the National Highways Authority of India has set the Guinness world record after constructing the 75 km single bituminous concrete road from Akola to Amravati on NH-53 within just 105 hours and 33 minutes last year in the month of August.

Gadkari also mentioned the manner in which there has been an increment of revenue from highways and roads during his tenure while providing more information on the achievements of the NHAI.

Revenue from toll plazas

He mentioned that there has been an increase in the collection of tolls from Rs 4,770 crore before 9 years to Rs 41,342 crore. According to Gadkari, the Centre now intends to increase the revenue coming from toll to ₹1.30 lakh crore.

Here, we like to say that the use of FASTags has been responsible for reducing long lines at the toll plazas. A car spends approximately 47 seconds at toll plazas on average right now with the introduction of FASTags.
