The capital of India, Delhi, has been experiencing extreme cold weather conditions in recent times. On December 27, there was a thick coating of fog in several parts of the city early in the morning. As a result, the visibility was poor in many areas, and it affected the normal flow of traffic as well. Moreover, the situation resulted in the cancellation of several trains too. As a result, there was a lot of delay for the individuals who were commuting early in the morning.
30 flights delayed
On Tuesday, approximately 30 flights were delayed at the airport in the city because of low visibility and dense fog. International flights also become delayed in this particular situation. The authorities of the Delhi airport declared an advisory, which stated that it is possible for flights that are not compliant with CAT III standards to face disruptions. They also advised the passengers to come in touch with their respective airlines to get the most recent flight information and verify whether their flights happen to be CAT III compliant.
The visibility at Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi plummeted to 50 m at 5:30 AM and Palam near the airport reported a 25 m visibility. On the other hand, the visibility varied between 25 m and 50 m in the states of Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, as well as UP.
According to the Indian Railways, as many as 22 trains were running late in the capital of India because of dense fog. The India Meteorological Department has mentioned in a post on X that some parts of Uttar Pradesh and some isolated areas of Chandigarh & Delhi, Haryana, north Madhya Pradesh, and Southwest Rajasthan experienced dense fog varying between 0 m and 25 m. Apart from this, the India Meteorological Department has also focused on extremely dense fog for late-night and early-morning hours in several northern states still New Year’s Eve.
Delhi temperature falls to seven degrees
On Wednesday, the temperature in Delhi plummeted approximately seven degrees. The IMD has issued a warning of extremely dense fog in the national capital, as well as Uttar Pradesh from the 27th of December to the 29th of December.

Apart from this, the Met department as issued an orange alert across Delhi at 8 AM while visibility remained approximately 50 m in many areas of the city. As per IMD color codes, when the alert call color is yellow, it implies that the authorities ought to be alert. As per the Met Department, visibility recorded today at 5:30 AM was Patiala-25, Amritsar (airport)-0, Paryagraj-25 & Varanasi-50, Ganganagar-50, Srinagar-25, Bareilly-25, Lucknow-25, Jhansi-200; Kota-500; Delhi (Palam)-125, and Delhi- Safdarjung-50.
