Arvind Kejriwal arrested: Delhi Police increases security at PM Modi’s residence over AAP’s call for gherao protest.
Arrêt of Arvind Kejriwal: The Delhi Police has stepped up security at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home in response to the Aam Aadmi Party’s call for a “gherao” protest over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in relation to the excise policy issue. The national capital’s security has also been stepped up in a number of other locations by the Delhi Police.
The demonstration is anticipated to cause traffic problems in the national capital’s key areas. Strong security measures have been put in place, according to a Delhi Traffic Police officer who spoke with the news agency PTI, in order to uphold law and order in the region.
In light of the protest, the Delhi Traffic Police has also set up diversion sites to ensure smooth traffic flow. On Tuesday, commuters are advised to stay away from Kemal Ataturk Marg, Safdarjung Road, Akbar Road, and Teen Murti Marg.
In the meantime, the prime minister’s mansion is already surrounded by Section 144 of the CrPC, and protests are not permitted there.
The AAP is organising “mega protests” over the country to express opposition to Kejriwal’s detention. As part of their rallies, party members planned to gherao the prime minister’s residence on Tuesday, according to a statement made earlier by Delhi Minister Gopal Rai.
