5 Things you Should not eat at the time of pregnancy

During pregnancy, it’s essential to be cautious about what you eat to ensure both your health and the health of your baby. Here are five things you should avoid:

  1. Raw or Undercooked Meat: This includes rare steak, sushi, or any meat that hasn’t been cooked thoroughly. These can contain harmful bacteria or parasites like Toxoplasma, which can lead to infections.
  2. Unpasteurized Dairy Products: Avoid soft cheeses like Brie, Camembert, and blue cheese unless they are clearly labeled as pasteurized. Unpasteurized milk and cheese can contain Listeria, which can be dangerous during pregnancy.
  3. Certain Fish with High Mercury Levels: Fish like shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish are high in mercury, which can affect the baby’s developing nervous system. Instead, opt for low-mercury fish like salmon, tilapia, or shrimp.
  4. Raw or Undercooked Eggs: Raw eggs can contain Salmonella, so avoid foods like homemade Caesar dressing, eggnog, and raw cookie dough. Make sure eggs are fully cooked before consuming them.
  5. Caffeine in Excessive Amounts: High levels of caffeine can increase the risk of miscarriage or low birth weight. Limit your intake of coffee, tea, and soft drinks to no more than 200 milligrams per day, which is about one 12-ounce cup of coffee.
